A Letter from Fin and Euba
04/19/04
Dear festival friends: -What a great weekend! Yes, we are absolutely
thrilled that our production was so recognized by the adjudicators
at the festival…it's a great honor and especially wonderful for
us because of how much "Fin & Euba" means to us personally. However,
what we will remember most is that the festival atmosphere wasn't
one of competition, but rather one of shared appreciation for good
work. Even more than the awards, we will cherish the wonderful comments
we received. To have people go out of their way to say that they
liked our work…to have people say "it was so real"…is the highest
compliment. We are also very appreciative of the feedback from the
adjudicators that will help us to fine-tune the show even more,
assuming we have the opportunity to perform it again one day. There
was a lot of wonderful, strong competition this year, right up to
the last day with D.C.'s amazing production of "Harriet." The incredible
timing of the cast from "Double Date", the extremely challenging
production of "The Daughter In Law", the hilarious "A Curtain Call
to Arms", the wonderful cutting of "Art" and the unique and powerful
"Harriet." That there were so many original scripts being shown
at this level was also wonderful to see.
Now comes the bittersweet part. We (with Michael--our
director--and Clare, Guy and Darius--our crew, who are all equal
parts in the success of this show) have spent over a year on this
production--developing the characters, refining the moments, seeking
permission for music and, of course, shopping for gnomes. With the
interest in Audrey's script, we realize that we'll now have to let
go and allow Fin and Euba to go on to a life of their own. Other
actresses will interpret the characters; other directors will stage
the scene. It's very difficult to release them into the world, but
it's the only way they'll live on. And that's what theatre is really
about. We'll move on to other projects (Audrey's next play… "Piano
Man") and hopefully we'll see you all again next year.
Thank you for the generosity of spirit shown by
all. It was the theatre experience of a lifetime.
- Erika and Audrey
